The History of the Steinbeis Center of Management and Technology

1993

First St. Gallen Management Seminar conducted in cooperation with the Swiss Research Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland

1996

Founding of the Steinbeis Transfer Institute (STI) Business and Engineering with the seminar “Manager of Business and Engineering”

1998

Founding of Steinbeis University Berlin (SHB) by the Steinbeis Foundation and government recognition of Steinbeis-Hochschule Berlin GmbH with Dr. Johann Löhn as president and founding directors Walter Beck and Rainer Gehrung

Founding of the Steinbeis-Institut Business and Engineering at SHB, directors Walter Beck and Rainer Gehrung

Teaching begins at SHB: First Project Competence Degree program “Master of Business and Engineering (MBE)” instituted with cooperation partners in Japan and the Kelley School of Business (KSB) in the United States

2000

STI Business Administration in Entrepreneurial Management founded at SHB and the first Project Competence Degree program “Master of Business Administration (MBA)” instituted

2001

STI Management and Technology founded at SHB and the first Project Competence Degree program “Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA)” instituted

2003

Steinbeis Career Center founded as an alliance of the leading transfer institute at Steinbeis University Berlin, with directors Walter Beck, Rainer Gehrung, and Peter Schupp

Various continuing education programs offered, from a certified training program to bachelor’s and master’s programs all the way to a doctorate in Project Competence

FIBAA accreditation for the MBA program

2004

FIBAA accreditation for the BBA program

2006

Business School Memmingen founded, offering junior bachelor’s programs based on the Project Competence concept

2007

Stuttgart Institute of Management and Technology (SIMT) acquired by Steinbeis University Berlin

2008

Project Competence Degree program “MBA International Management and Innovation” starts at SIMT in Stuttgart

STI Business and Engineering founded in Salzburg, Austria; Project Competence Degree program “Master of Business Engineering (MBE)” instituted

2009

Name change from Steinbeis Career Center to Steinbeis Center of Management and Technology (SCMT) GmbH with the three pillars research, education, and consulting

FIBAA accreditation for the MBE program, reaccreditation of all MBA programs

2010

SCMT GmbH merges with the Steinbeis Transfer Center object-IT, expanding SCMT GmbH’s activities to IT consulting

SAP Corporate Master Program introduced in cooperation with SAP, the Technische Universität München and the SRH University Heidelberg

2011

Project Competence Degree program “Master of Science in Controlling & Consulting” begins

“Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration” degree program begins in cooperation with TÜV Süd Akademie; the focus is on quality management

2012

FESTO Corporate program begins with the Project Competence Degree programs “Master of Business Engineering (MBE)” and “Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)”
